Each collector is thermally-welded and insert-molded. A direct, metered manifold delivers a balanced flow through the collector and prevents hot-spots. A tube-and-web design separates each individual round tube by a thin strip or “web”. This design allows for normal expansion and contraction while collecting more heat. It also minimizes the amount of heat lost from wind passing over the riser tubes.

A tube-and-web design allows for normal expansion and contraction, extending service life while also collecting more heat. Each panel contains 8 individual plates that are thermally-welded and insert-molded. A direct, metered manifold delivers a balanced flow through the collector and prevents hot-spots.

High-Quality Replacement

Compatible with any solar pool heater that has round 1.5” or 2" I.D. headers and makes connections with rubber hose type connectors. The header size is a measurement of the internal diameter.

Simple Installation

Utilizes rubber hoses and metal hose clamps to make connections. These components are by far the fastest & simplest method for attaching & securing solar pool heating panels (less hassle & faster assembly).

PROBLEM # 1

Threaded Fittings - Notorious For Poor Seals & Leaking Connections

Plastic threaded fittings do not provide a secure connection and tend to leak quite frequently. They also run the risk of getting cross threaded as many cheaper plastic threads do not always line up well.
 
The problem is made even worse if this fitting type is ever used on a swimming pool with a larger pump. Larger above ground pools, as well as just about any inground pool will utilize a pump that operates at a higher pressure. We have had customers call in that attempted to connect a threaded fitting system to their inground pool and blew the connections.
 
Threaded fittings are not designed for the operating pressure of these pumps. These swimming pools utilize pumps that operate at higher pressures that threaded fittings simply cannot hold.

Triple Threat contains no threaded fittings. We manufactured special adapters that connect with the use of O-rings & hose clamps for a completely secure, leak-free seal. These are the connection types used with high pressure inground pool systems, previously unavailable for above ground (flex hose style) swimming pools.

We solved the problem by developing our own adapter to make this connection type a reality for pool owners of all kinds!

Each Triple Threat system comes with a full set of adapters to connect to either 1.25”/1.5” flex hose, or PVC pipe.

PROBLEM # 2

Cheap Non-Positive Seal Diverter Valve’s

Poorly constructed non-positive seal valve’s are typically used in above ground or "hybrid" solar pool heating systems. They are a less expensive way of diverting water to and from a solar system.

*Non-positive seal valves, like the name suggests, do not provide a complete seal within the valve, meaning some water is allowed to pass through the closed port. These are commonly used with solar pool heaters to allow the system to drain when the pump shuts off (with the draining water getting through the "closed" port).

The problem here is when the solar system is in opperation. By definition, a non-positive seal valve will not force all the water through the solar collectors.

To optimize performance, we must optimize flow. This means assuring the best possible flow rate throw the system (flow is an extremely important characteristic with any solar system to assure optimal performance).

Flow is one of the most important aspects on any solar pool heating system!

To assure maximum flow and superior performance, Triple Threat includes only Pentair Optimum Positive Seal Valves!

You could have the best solar collectors in the world, if your components are not able to deliver adequate flow, it really doesn’t matter, your performance will always be hindered by the weakest part of the system.

*A drain loop assembly is included which solves the drainage problem and allows for gravity drainage of the panels and piping to still occur.

Unmodified polypropylene has a high rate of degradation from UV exposure. Sunlight breaks down the plastic and weakens it, a serious problem for a solar collector as its very nature is to collect as much sunlight as possible.

We observed a large portion of the above ground, or "hybrid" systems including solar collectors that at first glance, gave off the impression of a much lower sticker price. The cost however over time may be 2 or 3 times higher as the panels generally need to be replaced far more often, doubling or tripling the price over an extended timespan.

Each absorber plate of a Triple Threat solar collector is made from a propylene copolymer with synergistic antioxidants and UV screen including carbon black. When these special additives are coupled with a process of melt-blending the plastic, the thermal characteristics are altered, substantially increasing the material’s resistance to UV light. This process is vital in creating a solar panel capable of withstanding the sun's harsh conditions for years to come.
 
*For panels to last full life expectancy of 15-20 years, they should be installed on a sloped surface and plumbed in a manner that allows for automatic gravity drainage. Triple Threat comes with everything you need to allow for this functionality. Freeze damage must be avoided! This is accomplished by assuring no water is in the collectors when temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

It seems in an attempt to get prices as low as possible, some of these above ground kits have been broken down to the most basic packages.

You need a certain plumbing kit for how your going to attach the system, a certain mounting kit for how you are going to mount the system. It can be confusing to understand exactly what your getting and what you need to install the system the way you need.

This can also lead to misleading prices as the cost may appear low for the "system", however once all the essential hardware packages are included, the price can be quite different than the original assumption.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

Panel Kit

Contains the necessary parts for installing a solar pool heating panel to the mounting surface and connecting one panel to another within a system.

Panel connector hoses are molded EPDM rubber designed specifically for use with solar pool heating systems. Outlet header bracket, strap brackets and hose clamps are stainless steel construction for optimal strength and corrosion resistance.

Flashing bases are also included to support lag bolt attachment to the mounting surface and provide enhanced seal.

  • Durable UV-resistant EPDM rubber for long life in direct sun.
  • Reinforced center prevents deformation from pressure and vacuum.
  • Hose-clamp indicator ridges for perfect placement and seal.
  • Stainless-steel brackets and clamps.
  • Hoses are 3.75" wide.

One (1) Panel Kit is included for each solar panel provided in the kit.

Row Kit

Contains the parts necessary for making water connections from a row ("bank") of solar pool heating panels to the system's supply and return plumbing lines. Specialized pipe connectors create a leak-free seal between solar panels and PVC pipe. Also contains the parts necessary to aid in gravity drainage of the panels and piping, as well as cap off a single row of solar panels.
Each Row Kit includes a vacuum relief valve. Vacuum relief valve's allows air to enter the solar pool heating system when the pool pump shuts off to facilitate automatic gravity drainage of the panels and pipe. This is an extremely important aspect of solar pool heating systems to prevent freeze damage, as well as keep air from stagnating within the panels and piping.

One (1) Row Kit is included with each system. If you are installing your panels in multiple rows, you will need one (1) additional Row Kit per row of solar panels.

Flex Hose Adapter Kit

Includes specialized adapters developed to connect either 1.25" or 1.5" flex hose directly to the Triple Threat solar pool heating system. Contains adapters to attach to the solar panels, PVC fittings, 3-port valve and 2-port valve.

Triple Threat contains no threaded fittings. Specialized adapters connect with the use of O-rings & hose clamps for a completely secure, leak-free seal. These are the connection types used with high pressure inground pool systems, previously unavailable for above ground (flex hose style) swimming pools.
 
Each Triple Threat system comes with a full set of adapters to connect to either 1.25”/1.5” flex hose, or PVC pipe.

Accessory & Completion Kit

Contains the necessary parts for completing a standard roof mounted installation of the Triple Threat solar pool heating system. One of these components is the Drain Loop Assembly, which allows for the automatic gravity drainage of the panels & piping when the pump shuts off. This functionality is critical for keeping systems protected from freeze damage when temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

This kit is also used for assisting in alternative installation methods. Kit includes enough strapping for up to (6) solar collectors. If more strap is needed, additional may be purchased by searching for PN: 16007 (available in multiple lengths, or 100 ft. bulk roll).

When solar panels are installed horizontally OR on a ground mounted surface near pool level, panels will either need to be connected to an automation system with freeze protection enabled or manually drained of all water whenever temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit (temperature at which freeze damage can begin to occur).

Triple Threat includes premium Pentair Optimum Positive Seal Diverter Valve's. Positive seal valve's assure maximum flow is maintained for a maximum heating performance.

Pentair Optimum Positive Seal Valves have excellent flow characteristics. They are also manufactured to strict quality standards & never require lubrication!

3-Port valves are used to divert water either to the solar array (turn solar on), or back to the pool (turning solar off).

  • Maintenance-free PTFE coated diverter requires no lubrication.
  • Positive seal ensures complete isolation.
  • Withstands pressure up to 150 psi.
  • Fiberglass reinforced handle with field-adjustable stop positions.

Which Size System
Do I Need?

The most relevant aspect of sizing a system is based on the square footage of your pool. We typically recommend anywhere from 50%-100% solar panel to pool square foot coverage based on a number of different variables including, weather, shade, install direction, wind, climate region, performance expectations, etc. For example, if your pool is 500 square feet, then 50% coverage would be 250 square feet of panels, 75% coverage would be 375 square feet of panels, etc. From there it is selecting a panel size that fits your installation area.
